Go deep into top six diving spots in Taiwan. Experience the underwater blue gradient and enjoy an amphibious tour. Taiwan is surprisingly multifaceted and boundless.
In recent years, circular tours around Taiwan have become a popular phenomenon. Travelers who have strode through the land found the colors of the mountains and sea are more vivid than photos can possibly convey. The pace of the countryside life feels like a slow-running clock. The relationship between humans and the earth is surprisingly close. Consider what kind of underwater scenery these visitors see when they travel around Taiwan.

Collect The Northeast Piece of The Puzzle
" Every Taiwanese should visit any of top six diving spots in Taiwan, if possible!" Dylan Chen, CEO of Taiwan Dive, once lived in Australia and has been settled in Hengchun for more than a decade. In 2019, he serendipitously invited globally renowned diving writers, Simon Pridmore and his wife, to Taiwan in 2019 to dive around the island. Within one month, they visited diving spots from the northeast coast to Hengchun, and then to Lanyu, Penghu, Liuchiu and Green Island. They recorded the breathtaking beauty of the seas around Taiwan through the text and images published in the book Dive into Taiwan. It is hoped that everyone can explore the precious diving spots of Taiwan altogether from different perspectives.

Having spent half a year planning this trip, Chen said that this "Taiwan Dive Safari" broke many of his prejudices.
While they were listing the diving spots to visit, Simon proposed the northeast coast. "A hundred question popped into my head," Chen said. Later, Simon shared his reasons and convinced Chen in no time. "There are not many foreign tourists in Taiwan, and most are business travelers who stay only in Taipei. They seldom go on a three to five day vacation to visit Lanyu or Green Island. However, they may be able to visit the northeast coast of Taiwan for one or two days to enjoy the underwater scenery along the nearby northeast coast." The northeast coast is a key place to spark foreign tourists' interest in Taiwan's oceans. Once they become interested, there is a chance to lure them to other diving spots in Taiwan.
"Actually, on the day we arrived at Chaojing Park on the northeast coast, I felt a bit uneasy before diving into the water. I was afraid that I might fail to introduce the best scenery to them." It turned out that he worried needlessly. The shoals and corals in the northeast sea are in good condition. "The lovely shoals of small puffer fish and the gigantic sea apples were supposedly rarely seen in Kenting. If we regard diving in Taiwan as a puzzle, the northeast coast has now become a piece of my puzzle."
A Trip Beyond Diving
At their second stop, they went to Chen’s home field, Hengchun in Pingtung. Simon raised another question: In addition to diving, are there any other local attractions?
It was a wake-up call. He used to goon diving trips, instead of a taking trips that include diving. Traveling is about tourists' overall experience. Diving may not always lead you to unique scenery or creatures, but it must be full of stories and make you feel comfortable. The underwater scenery in Taiwan may not be able to compete with topflight Palau and Maldives, but we are blessed with our diverse culture, savory cuisine, and intriguing customs. Only combined with these unique features can we convey our unique charms.
Therefore, Dylan Chen partnered with local ecotourism businesses, and took Simon and his wife to Sheding of Hengchun to see sika deers and observe the ecology there. Additionally, they visited the rice-growing Longshui Community to make Turtle-Shaped Rice Cakes and paid tribute to Kitchen God. "I even had him try beef offal soup!"
When arriving at Lanyu, they definitely wouldn't miss the Tau culture. Simon was extremely impressed with the beauty of fishing villages and geological landscape in Penghu while the plastic-free campaign that Liuchiu has promoted recently fit well with their ideology. "We did not produce any disposable garbage this month. Even when we went to the night market, we all used eco-friendly containers and utensils.” (Extended Reading Texts: Having Salvaged More Than 30 Tons Of Marine Garbage, Liuchiu Marine Volunteers Never Ceases To Guard The Ocean)

Chen, a native of Kaohsiung, made a special arrangement to have them stay in the city for one night. They visited the old streets in Yancheng, ate shaved ice, savored tea and made mullet roe. "Kaohsiung enjoys a favorable location with easy access to Hengchun, Penghu or Liuchiu for diving. Hopefully, in the future, this city will be the first stop for foreign divers to learn about Taiwan."
Because I Care, I Show Love With Action
Inadequate self understanding often leads to low confidence. In the eyes of foreign divers, Taiwan is situated at the confluence of ocean currents and offers unique diving experiences. This diving safari around Taiwan allows Dylan Chena precious opportunity to examine Taiwan’s diving industry from different perspectives.

"The biggest problem at present is that diving is not integrated with other tourism resources. I used to consider myself as working in the diving industry, but now I see myself as part of the tourism industry. So, I opened a B&B and integrated it with eco-tourism. I also established Taiwan Dive Academy this year. In addition to professionally training diving instructors, I will also incorporate diverse skills into the training to bring the strengths of Taiwan Dive in line with international expectations and enhance our service quality.” (Extended Reading Texts: Striving To Be The Guardian Of That Ocean, Dylan Chen Thoroughly Dedicates Himself To Diving And Promoting Environmental Sustainability Through Teaching And Beach Cleaning)
In addition to its leisure and recreation, diving tourism also provides a wonderful opportunity for environmental education. To promote ocean health, Taiwan Dive requires every tourist dive without wearing sunscreen and live a plastic-free. He even schedules one meatless day per week. Whether you are a tourist or an employee, you are offered vegetarian meals without exception. He even hired a professional team for energy management of the entire B&B. He constantly ponders how to solve social problems through commercial activities. For what? For this wide crystal blue sea.

Lanyu
As long as you are Taiwanese, Dylan Chen strongly recommends to visit Lanyu at least once in your lifetime. You will not only get to see the most primitive customs, but also the diving spot with the best visibility, as deep as 40 meters. The underwater landscape there is varied and diverse. The diving experience makes you feel that you are flying in a valley. Badai Bay is the top one Taiwan dive spot in Simon's mind. In addition, Lanyu's unique culture creates its own ambience to make people lose track of time. Liuchiu
Liuchiu is where sea turtles are seen the most. However, visiting tourists are overcrowding this maritime space. Simon’s wife, Sofie, said with sincere advice that the seabed of Liuchiu has been unimaginably damaged. Without any review or plan in total amount control, humans will have to pay for their depletion of this island. ( Read More: Lived An Islander's Life And Stayed In Liuchiu For Two Years)

Hengchun
Accommodation and transportation here are satisfactorily available in all aspects. Hengchun provides abundant and diverse tourism resources. In addition to diving, you can also find yourself taking pleasure in surfing, experiencing SUP, canoeing, eco-tourism, and hot spring. Penghu
On his dive safari around Taiwan, Dylan Chen got his first chance to go to Penghu for recreational diving. To his surprise, the local coral coverage was quite good. In particular, the "lavender forest" composed of the vastness of purple coral is a globally rare underwater landscape. Thousands of barracuda, or "Wolves of Dongji", also provide a spectacular scene. The strong currents are rather exciting as well. "Every diver felt thrilled!" However, only a few diving spots were satisfactorily visible. The currents in most places were too strong and the visibility was so poor that you couldn't see fish clearly. You could only feel shoals swimming by. Green Island
Among Taiwan's diving spots, Green Island is the only one on the world's top 10 list. Compared with Lanyu, you can see more fish shoals in Green Island, and the visibility of over 30 meters is not bad. It is very suitable for diving activities of longer days. All diving spots, including Chicken Reef, Crocodile Rock and Steel Reef, will never make your trip in vain.
